Is There a Scale in Heaven?

Until this weekend, the thought never crossed my mind. Then I woke up on May 21st wondering what if. What if “they” were right? Will I be judged about my weight in heaven? Stupid question, but it crossed my mind for a brief moment, nonetheless. Thankfully May 21st has come and gone. We were spared.  With this opportunity we can choose to continue our lives just as we always have or we can choose to become better people.  We can choose to improve ourselves and the way that we treat our fellow man.  I hope going forward that this blog is used as a positive forum for all sides of the weight loss equation to articulate views, share ideas, and motivate those struggling with weight issues in a respectful way. Will we always agree?  No.  Should we respect that we are different, have different opinions, and come in different sizes?  I hope that you all believe, yes.

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of attending an exhibit at Discovery Place called, “Race: Are We So Different”. I had expected to go in and out within an hour because I thought no one could tell me anything new about race. When I thought about the word "race", I immediately thought in black and white.  I thought the exhibit was about the continuous struggle between these two races.  Boy was I wrong!  Through this exhibit, my eyes were opened to the many facets of race.  I stayed at the exhibit for three hours until it closed.  I thoroughly enjoyed reading, seeing and hearing the fascinating information about the human race.

My mind was opened to the other aspects of race because I took the time to consider a different perspective than my own. Over the next seven months I will continue to share my weight loss journey -- one that will be filled with many celebrations and periodic defeats.  At times the journey may be bumpy, that's what happens in real life.  Life's not perfect and neither am I.  I hope you will enjoy the ride.

Until Wednesday.

Life is what you make it. Make it count.

So, now a health and fitness blog has turned into a blog about race and God? I thought last week was weird enough but now I see that was just the beginning.

As long as you want to talk about God, let's have at it. I don't mean any disrespect to you but God gave you your body, with life being precious, and you have decided to ruin it by gluttony. Many conservative church, of which I am not affiliated with, have embraced the green movement as being a steward of our Earth is important. I see no difference between that and taking care of your body.

I have no direct insight into religion and neither do you. I thought this blog was about weight loss. It is not any more.

I just couldn't resist this one. Today's post contained 348words. Besides the reference to religion in the title and the first 55 words, the remaining words (84%) were about respect for one other, appreciation for what makes us different and the need to be open to new perspectives. After last week, I felt compelled to put us back on course - there was too much negative stuff flying.

Sorry that you found today's post weird. Perhaps when you no longer feel the need to sling your stuff, you will feel the positive energy and will see the real message. Next post will be specifically about weight loss. Have great day!

Dan put us back on course, you didn't. You continue to take us off course. I don't want to hear about God and race on a weight loss blog. If your intention in posting was evangelizing the News and Observer should remove this blog.

Nancy, now that the haters have chased off Melissa, sounds like they've started berating you. Don't let them get you down.

Good blog and I look forward to your weight loss ups and downs.

Keep the positivity flowin'!

How is it hating that people don't want a religion and race message on a weight loss blog?

Then don't read her blog...

I enjoyed it and understood where she was going with it...she was comparing the fact that she thought she knew all she needed to know about race to the fact that many negative blog readers feel they know all they need to about weight loss. It wasn't about race or religion, it was about being open to admitting that maybe you can learn something new...even when you think you already know it all!

Good luck this week Nancy!

Eureka! You nailed it! Thank you so much. I really wanted people to understand the importance of acceptance and the need to get beyond your natural comfort zones.

Thank YOU for taking the time to really read the words. You have made my night.

You know I have read this blog from the beginning and enjoy it. I too struggle with weight. I have made very few comments. The one thing that I AM SICK AND TIRED OF is logging on and reading CONSTANT NEGATIVE COMMENTS FROM SOMEONE WHO CAN NOT EVEN PUT A NAME TO THEIR COMMENTS!!! This "anonymous" person posts multiple negative commets on EVERY BLOG POST!!!! The ONLY REASON THAT "ANONYMOUS" reads this blog is to post his nasty and negative comments and put others down in order to make himself feel bigger and better. "Anonymous" you have got to live an extreamly bitter lonely existence as you feel the need to post mutiple negative comments on each and every post. If I spent as much time on blog posts as you do I would get a life!!!!! To Nancy...this anonymous coward has succeeded in "running off" Melissa. It is my hope that you will channel your inner BIOTCH and put this person in his place as need be!!! DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED OR RUN AWAY BY THIS COWARD!!!!!!!!!

Don't worry. He can huff and puff but won't blow this blogger down. He has made my point clearer than I could ever do. Thank you for the positive feedback.

Anon 5/23 9:26 - I have some suggestions for you:

1) Zoloft. Paxil. Lexapro. Prozac. See a doctor and get one. You are in dire need.
2) Familiarize yourself with the concept of CONTEXT. Once you do, the part of the post discussing race will make a whole lot more sense to you.
3) Identify yourself. Hiding behind "anonymous" while berating others does not make you a superior life form to everyone else. On the contrary, it makes you less of one.

I find it interesting that a few months ago when you started this blog, you were encouraged to do some soul searching to determine the root cause of your weight gain. Now that you are digging for that answer and thinking about life in a new perspective, people want to pound on you. What's up with this double standard?
