Spring Workout

It's nice to know that there are lots of ways to be productive while working out. Planting my perennials and cleaning up my yard this past week, I was able to feel the burn and work on my tan. In fact, I have been discovering new ways to burn calories while checking things off my to-do list. Weeding and raking had me working my back, arms and legs; mowing and cleaning helped me work up a sweat and work on my house. In addition, the influx of veggies and fruits have resulted in healthier dinners and satisfying treats. Summer is in the air and healthy living is growing all around me.

This is not rigorous aerobic exercise that you must do o lose weight.

Good for you, keep it up!! Every little bit counts. I don't know if you've looked into healthy condiments, but check out Walden Farms products. They've made a big difference in calorie cutting for me. Their salad dressings are pretty good!

Make sure to continue working out, even on the same days when you're doing chores or yard work. You desperately need to make exercise a habit, and skipping days because you're tired or thought such and such qualified as your exercise for the day is the lazy person's excuse.

Keep exercising, keep doing chores around the house and in the yard, stay active and eat right. Make this your lifestyle and you should see the pounds slide off.

DO NOT make excuses, DO NOT grow lazy or apathetic, DO NOT give into temptation and DO NOT justify any indulgences, at least until you've hit your final weight goal.

I dunno, yard work requires activity but it is not a workout at all. This seems to be some point of desperation to simply write a blog entry out of obligation.

I sometimes try to track the calories from yard work, but add that to the total from my "real" workout for the day. It could be walking, jogging, exercise bike, swimming. Any aerobic exercise that gets the heart rate up.

So great job getting up and doing something active. I'd strongly urge you to use that as the starting point of getting a weekly exercise routine. Actually schedule something on your calendar: time, place, expected activity, even goals for the workout. If you had a doctor's appointment you would go. Same for dentist. Make yourself a priority, and it feels less like a chore and more like doing something good for yourself.

Good luck.

I have been a staunch supporter of not being slack but in this case Dan is right. Yard work is a good form of exercise. If you are bending, stooping, stretching, carrying, etc. etc. This is good for you. Yes, I believe in lots of cardio but yardwork is a good thing. I know that Dan is getting his cardio in as well during the week. So in this case, some of you need to back off. Go dog the other "biggest losers" who are still struggling to get off the couch.

How many more months of barely exercising are you people going to applaud? Is yardwork exercise? Maybe, but unless she is doing it 5X/week for 45+ minutes vigorously this blog post is just another in a long line of gradually diminishing stories of a fat person not doing what it takes to change their lives.

Heard today that carrying belly fat is the equivalent of smoking 1 pack of cigs a day and it doubles your risk of premature death. You'd think that alone would motivate the blogger to stop gorging and start losing weight.

Good job Melissa. The more active you are, the easier it is to be active!! :)

It is so much fun to plant pretty flowers in your yard and to watch them grow :) - Bonus: a way to break some sweat.

There are, obviously,a lot of people who comment here, that have never had a weight problem!!!I've gained and lost over 100lbs twice now! You'd think, that, after the first time, I wouldn't have had to do it a second time! However, you can't even begin to understand the difficulties, mentally and physically, overweight people have. The fact that Melissa has gotten up and accomplished getting her yard work done,is in fact,a form of exercise!Anything that makes your heart rate increase and causes you to sweat is considered exercise!!I lost most my weight doing yard work!I have a half acre lot that requires a lot of attention(read mowing,weeding,weed-eating etc).It takes me the better part of a the day to do it all!
SO,off yer high horses and give her her dues!!!
