Look what the bunny brought back!

Well, the Easter Bunny doesn't only bring protein-rich eggs...I'm back after a short break from the blogosphere. Actually, I also requested to only post once per week from now on - being busy living my life and all, I just can't spend as much time writing about it (I'm joking - it's supposed to sound snarky!). Rejoice in the more frequent blogs of Nancy and Dan because those two are smokin' with the weight loss thing and I'm more the tarty turtle in this meaty marathon.

As you know by now, I'm always going to be honest regarding my ups and downs. I can tell you that while my things have been going, my exercise has been slowin' since I ran out of my visits at the Y. That said, my food choices are accumulating and one good choice is leading to others; it's still hard, but it's getting easier and that's making my weight loss journey that much better.

All in all, I'm still choo--chooing along, the Little Engine that Could and Couldn't Occasionally. I'm not going to pretend I didn't enjoy eating Easter dinner with my family because Yum! it was good and I had a blast. However, I've learned that one indulgence needs to be balanced by many good choices and with my return to town and days off work, I have a feeling that ham will be hightailing off my hide without fail. A week full of yinning and yanging and whatnot - shazaam!

Family gatherings and holidays are always going to be the most difficult for you (or anyone trying to lose weight). You'll see a delicious bounty of food on the table at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas or have an awesome fat-filled cookout on July 4th. Your challenge is to abstain, it's what you have to do to be successful in your weight loss. It isn't easy with everyone around you indulging, but if you're serious about this, you need to be resolved and dedicated to eating healthy.

Once you achieve a healthy weight and lifestyle, then you can give in to the indulgences of the holidays and resume your healthy diet afterwards. Until then, you are not in a position to indulge yourself on such behavior.

This blog has become stale and out lived its usefulness. Anyone else cringe when you saw this blogger return? Yes, I know I should just stop reading it, but maybe this needs to go on a long hiatus. So thankful that we have two other bloggers that truly seem to try...

This blog is in a death spiral. This is another entry about indulging instead of losing weight. If you look at this blog history you will not it has always been about indulging and excusing making.

You can't go to the Y because your free visits ran out? OK, so get a membership or a reduced price membership, which they offer.

So, you didn't work out on vacation I take it. I went on Spring Break with my family. We worked out every day and ran a race in the area.

I was also mortified by the obese people on the beach. Americans are disgustingly fat.

Another entry about indulging and excuses. Three months of this now. Why is this blog still going?

"It was good. I had a blast."

Duh, wonder why you are morbidly obese?

Welcome Back Melissa!!
Glad to hear that you are learning and its getting easier to make the correct food choices.

Don't listen to the naysayers. Your positive attitude will help you along your journey!

If you can't afford to go to the Y... (I can't.) Try the Biggest Loser Boot Camp DVD, I love that DVD... also the BL Weight Loss yoga is good too.

Also, set a goal like running a 5K.. then do the Couch to 5K Training. Gives you something to work towards. :)

The Y won't turn you away because you can't afford the full priced membership. Scratch that excuse off the list.

i dont understand. you don't post for 2 weeks or so and then come back to say you no longer exercise and gorged at a family dinner? i no longer understand what this blog is about. what are you going to change your life? how much weight have you lost? did you see the nutritionist like you said? how many days a week are you vigorously exercising? are you obligated to the paper to keep up the blog when you have quit trying to lose weight?

Seems like the Easter bunny brought you a fresh basket of excuses and whining.

At the end of the day, as with all things in life, what you put in your mouth is a choice. With any weakness or addication or bad habit... IT'S A CHOICE. I'm in my own weightloss journey, 158 lbs down and 40 more to go, so I know what it is to want to be healthier and feel like you cant be, but that's just an excuse because you CAN BE! Please dont let the negative nellies discourage you from posting/sharing your journey. There are those of us who've tuned into you regularly, silently supporting what you're doing yet waiting on you to have your "a-ha" moment when the desire to be healthy trumps the desire to eat candy. As in all tough journeys, it's never about what you're giving up, but about what you're gaining by doing so! Melissa you can do this if you want to! Sounds trite and simple, but that's the bottom line.

I agree with Anon @ 12:20, it is up to you. I've been silently cheering you along but now its hard. We all want for you to succeed, but you have to decide whether you really want to or not. There are temptations everywhere you go, you just have to be strong enough to say NO! Please gain some strength and do this for real. I know all of these negative comments cannot be good for your self esteem or emotional well being. No piece of food is worth risking diabetes or any other obesity related illness. Please re-commit yourself to your goals and REALLY go for it.

Living a healthy lifestyle IS NOT ABOUT SAYING NO. As long as you view living a healthy life as sacrificing you will never ever achieve your goals. Being fit and healthy is about just that - being fit and healthy. You need to get out of your fat person mindset and think of all you are missing/will miss as you continue to age and get bigger and bigger and bigger.

I agree with the poster about the a-ha moment. I was hoping it would be when hit rock bottom with that bizarre trip to be on The Biggest Loser TV show and ended up drinking and eating all weekend. Apparently it is going to take something more horrific than that. Go see your doctor, that might bring some horrifying news unfortunately.

To anonymous above, until someone can overcome their food addiction (M has said food is her comfort tool), they need to be able to say no to food that does not promote a healthy lifestyle. Only when they have reached their weight and maintained should they add their indulgences back in. People who rely on something non human for comfort look at their addiction differently that others. I agree, she needs to say no until she can conquer her addiction and realize that food is not going to give her satisfaction.
