Considering the middle finger excuse

Nancy Johnson

I got the news last week. My middle finger will take another three to four weeks before my fractured finger is totally healed. Seems I didn't know my strength when I slammed the door on it. Maybe I should have listened to my mother and daughter when they told me to drink more milk.
Once upon a time, I would have allowed this small, yet very annoying fracture to be an excuse for not exercising. Don’t get me wrong -- I am still searching for excuses. Yet in three more weeks I have another four more pounds to shed, and fat just won’t wait for my middle finger to heal. I have made a Dr. Seuss-like commitment to myself and to my daughter to win this battle of the bulge. So my nine good fingers will have to compensate for the one fractured.

I had my first meeting with the Siskey YMCA staff. Talk about energy! Talk about friendly! Talk about commitment! I am not yet liking the exercise Kool-Aid, but what a supportive group of people. Listening to them, I could envision myself enjoying the treadmill, the stationary bike and even the elliptical machine. (This is my Goliath).

Watch out for the nine-fingered bandit at the Siskey YMCA. I will be searching for your empathetic smiles.

You guys are killing me. This ain't rocket science. It's calories in vs. calories out. You probably have a weekly schedule. Schedule four to five days a week, 45 minutes to an hour of vigorous exercise. You don't need a gym membership. Go outside and do a combo walk/run. Get your heart rate up and push yourself. Then, cut back on dairy and fried food and quit drinking sodas. There's tons of stuff online about diet that won't have you eating like a bird. That way you won't feel deprived and going on binges. If you'll do these things you will lose weight. Get with it. Quit talking about it.

Oh, how I wish we really were KILLING you. Of all the places on the net that you can go, your computer MYSTERIOUSLY found itself back at this particular website.

Hmm. Sounds like you either like torturing yourself day in and day out OR you really don't have anything else to do put waste precious time.

Sorry, if you THINK you are going to rain on MY parade please think again. People like you are a true waste of God's oxygen and will continue to be my replacement to the daily comics.

What did you expect to read when you come to this blog? If you don't like it, go crawl somewhere else!

What did you expect to read when you come to this blog? It is a daily weight loss blog written by real people NOT afraid to share our story or hide behind the name ANONYMOUS.

If you don't like what we say, I will miss you but you can go crawl somewhere else!

Anon 8:34 - Quit using situations like this as salve for your own insecurities. Going to a site where people are struggling with something you don't struggle with and belittling the strugglers and boasting about yourself makes you look like the smallest person on Earth. If you are that insecure and small that you have to tear others down to build yourself up, get some help. And be man/woman enough to identify yourself if you're going to attack others.

Real people also lose weight and real people also write fitness blogs. Just because you are fat doesn't make you any more real than anyone else. Being fat doesn't make you anointed. It simply makes you fat.

Best of luck with your weight loss. Buck up and learn there are plenty of real people out here with very real and honest opinions on weight loss.

Amen, Nancy J! Keep up the good work. YOu can do it. Just getting past the making of excuses is a good feeling. Exercising will start being a good feeling too. Have a great time at the Y. I'm sure you will grow to love it there!

Nancy, you are so strong and I'm so proud of you for not only having the strength and courage to make positive changes in your health and life, but also the courage to communicate to others facing the same issues. My feeling is, if people are annoyed or frustrated with your journey, then they should NOT be reading your postings and blogs. Simple solution, folks! I personally am really interested in Nancy's journey and her trials and tribulations. I lost 45 lbs. nine years ago and EVERY DAY is a journey in keeping that weight off. So you go, girl, and keep up the outstanding work! And keep on posting and communicating!

It must be nice to be perfect like Anonymous - to have all the answers to all the problems of the world. OH WAIT - he/she must not be quite so perfect, cause he/she obviously has no compassion or understanding of what it's like to be human!

Nancy - I'm going to kill two birds with one stone here. In response to your post of today, go to your reunion and just be wonderful YOU. I realize the October reunion was your initial inspiration, but you need to do this (lose the weight) for YOU, which will inspire Brittney (and others), but she/they can't be the reason for doing it. You, your health, and your own self confidence are reason enough. I love you Woman and continue to hold you in prayer! Keep up the good work!

It's funny that for someone who hates to read these blogs, the Annoyingmoose is usually one of the first ones to respond. Hey, look at me, Annoyingmoose, how do you like THIS middle finger excuse!
